So much experience and knowledge gained Wow, I must say this experience truly did change my life for the better. I have a lot of experience under my belt that tickled my mind to new interests and opened doors for the future. Because of this internship, I will continue to pursue the skills of garden and might consider a diet involving more raw vegan meals. The Internship was hard work yet fun and fascinating. I learned lots from Katrina and why she started Turtle Lake Refuge.
Farming was probably my favorite part. I loved planting seeds and creating mulch. The farm was still beautiful despite the lack of vegetation. She had two greenhouses-one being a dome and the other a typical rectangular prism. Her fairy tale home was across the street. Inside, was a truly magical home that seemed like it was built by wood nymphs or something. Most of it was built out of wood. A pellet stove occupied the living room and a swinging bench rested near the deck. Upstairs were scattered garden books alongside the branch railings and her bookshelf. A cute window sat behind her bed and a beautiful dresser across from it. The house together was so beautiful! I can't get over it! Anyway, tuning back to Earth. I also enjoyed working at the cafe of Turtle Lake Refuge. My favorite part there was definitely preparing and serving the meals. They gave me the freedom to experiment with the beverages and spices to the food. That was so much fun, considering all of the herbs and spices that were offered. There were dozens stacked across the shelves above the appliances! The customers I served were very appreciative and friendly which made the experience that much more pleasurable. My least favorite part was probably harvesting the micro-greens. It had its perks (Such as being able to talk to the people I was working with during the process. We all worked at the same table.) but also its downfalls. Days were dedicated solely for harvesting which means I often worked for six hours straight. Despite those days, I still thoroughly enjoyed Turtle Lake Refuge.
I believe my strengths were the patience I had during the micro-green harvesting and my kindness towards customers.
My weaknesses were the miscommunication I had with my fellow colleagues and I misunderstood what their instructions were. Another was my lack of action. I didn't ask enough questions and should have engaged in my project more. If I could, I would volunteer again at Turtle Lake Refuge and gain more experiences and reconnect with the people I worked with.
